Step-by-step guide on how to create your own creations with ceramic resin!
Step 1
Clean your mold with alcohol and a paper towel.
Select and clean your mold.
Step 2
The instructors will provide measured resin mix for you.
Decide which colors of chips you’d like to make. You will need one mixing cup/color. Use the pigments (start with one or two drops) to dye your resin mixture. Mix your resin mixture and spread out in a thin layer onto your plastic sheet. Spread with a popsicle stick. Let the mixture dry 10-15 minutes. Once this is dry, crumble this into chips. Set aside. Acetate sheets are reusable! Please reuse!
*Skip this step if not using the chip method!
Make your chips.
Step 3
Mix your resin with water and stir with a popsicle stick until the mixture is smooth and you have incorporated all of the powder. If you are dying your resin, add your dye now, 1-2 drops. If using chips, stir in your chips. Once everything is fully incorporated, pour this into your mold!
NOTE: If you really want your chips to stand out, do not incorporate all of your chips into your resin mixture and sprinkle some on to the bottom of your mold before pouring.
Mix and pour your resin.
Step 4
Once your pour your resin, use a popsicle stick to smooth everything out to make sure there is an even surface. Agitate the sides of the mold to release any air bubbles. Now, let is set! This might take could take up to 30 minutes. Once it is hard and no longer shiny it is set and you can demold. Carefully peel the sides away to remove, you might need multiple hands.
Set and demold.
Step 5
Get your item wet. Take your lowest grit (roughest) sandpaper. Sand it! Wash, rinse and repeat! Move up to the higher grit each time, until you are happy with it!
With each new grit, get your item wet and repeat!
Sand it.
Step 6
If you are sealing your item with the wax compound to make water-tight, take a small microfiber cloth and buff onto your item in a circular motion. Use a small amount each time until you are happy with the cover.
**If you want to make your piece food-safe you can purchase a sealer here.
